Will IT employment prospects look any brighter anytime soon? Our magic eight ball says, "Reply hazy, try again." Here are some highlights from the most recent reports, which show sometimes contradictory outlooks.

1. TechServe Alliance says that the employment market lost 16,000 jobs in June, a 0.4% contraction.

2. June's IT employment included 3,828,900 jobs. That's a year-over-year dip of nearly 5%.

3. But there's some good news out there: The reduction reported by TechServe Alliance last month was far less than recent months, including March, when IT employment slid by 31,300 jobs and 0.79%.

4. A recent poll conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Technisource found that 40 % of IT workers are confident in their ability to find a new job compared to 37% during the first quarter of the year.

5. Only 48% of tech workers think the economy is getting worse, compared to 66% with bleak outlooks during the first quarter.

6. Approximately 64% of tech workers are confident in the future of their current employers, up from 58% of workers who said the same during the first quarter.

7. Based on the Harris/Technisource survey, the IT Employee Confidence Index rose by 6.1 points to 45.8 in Q2 of this year.

8. Released last month, the Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Index and Skills Report found that at least 85% of the CIOs it interviewed will retain the current level of IT staffing.

9. Analysts with Computer Economics report that among 200 IT executives recently surveyed, 46% say they will reduce headcount in 2009, while 27% are increasing hiring.

10. Recent figures from Janco Associates found that though overall IT salaries will drop by 0.19% this year, average IT salaries within large enterprises will rise by 0.22%.
