Although the economy is having some trouble turning around, the IT job market looks to be a bright spot for early 2012. In fact, many enterprises are having troubling finding just the right tech talent to meet their changing IT needs. Is your company among the many firms that are looking for employees who can handle the increasingly difficult tasks presented to them by today’s mix of mobile, cloud and big data technologies? Then you know that finding IT job candidates who can adequately perform those duties isn’t always easy. Job search site Indeed says it analyzed millions of job postings to compile this list of the top 10 tech job skills of 2011. Here’s what you should be looking for from your next IT job candidates.

Apple iOS

As Apple’s mobile iOS’ explodes around the world, enterprises want to develop applications to capitalize on it. Keep that in mind as you make your employment decisions in the coming years.

Android

Like iOS, Google’s mobile OS Android is gaining popularity. Smartphone vendors and development firms are trying to find people who can work their way around the operating system.

Mobile App

According to Indeed, companies that include “mobile app” in their job posting are after developers who can make applications to meet customer-facing as well as internal-facing mobility needs.

Puppet

If you haven’t ever heard of Puppet, it’s time to check it out. The service is an IT infrastructure management solution that helps cut down on the amount of time it takes to handle simple tasks. Puppet is robust and useful, but companies need people who are skilled enough to harness its power.

Hadoop

Apache’s Hadoop is another solution that doesn’t spend time in the spotlight, but provides a lot of use to companies. The software library is a framework that helps users easily process big data. It’s the ideal solution for software engineers to take on.

jQuery

jQuery is important in JavaScript development. The open source service helps users write code. According to Indeed, jQuery expertise is one of the key things employers are looking for in Web developers.

Platform-as-a-Service

Although Indeed doesn’t single out a specific Platform as a Service (PaaS) provider, the research makes it clear that PaaS is becoming an important topic for employers. If you’re looking for a programmer analyst, keep this in mind.

Social Media

Social media is an extremely important component in enterprise communications strategies, whether these are employee-facing or customer-facing. It’s time to seek out developers and marketing folks who know how to manage social networks--and keep communications secure while doing so.
