If you’re thinking seriously about migrating your enterprise network connectivity services, you’re not alone. A slew of companies have been examining connectivity options over the past couple years. A new study from the Yankee Group -- based on a survey of 400 IT decision-makers at small, midsized, and large companies, as well as government organizations -- explores the decision-making process when choosing a network provider. The organization’s findings reveal that the tried-and-true criteria of service and support continue to rule decision-making. Here's what you'll want to keep in mind as you shop for enterprise connectivity options.

Scalable & Flexible“Improved scalability/flexibility of service” is the most important option among the majority of respondents when it comes to switching to a new WAN/MAN service.

Quality of ServiceDeploying a WAN/MAN network service with improved quality of service is the second-most important consideration for IT decision-makers.

Customer SupportCustomer support is the third most important factor among respondents when considering a new network provider.

Cost SavingsSurprisingly, reducing upfront costs and having limited disruption are least important to IT decision-makers.

OutsourcingOutsourcing WAN/MAN services is a strategic priority for about 29 percent of respondents to the Yankee Group survey.

Mid-Sized PerspectiveAbout 34 percent of respondents in mid-sized organizations (100-499) say they would consider outsourcing managed WAN/MAN network services.

Strategic Priority23 percent of respondents say they believed outsourcing managed access services was a strategic priority for their organization.

Bandwidth Per PortWhen choosing a connectivity provider, 21 percent of respondents say that adequate bandwidth availability per port is their top priority.

PricingWhen selecting a services provider, 18 percent of respondents say the lowest price is most important to them.

Where's the Budget?Companies are dedicating 44 percent of network budget to WAN services, while 33 percent is going towards access-related service.

Where's the ROI?In order for companies to invest in new connectivity options, they will need to see a payback within 12 to 18 months, depending on company size.
