Smartphones and other mobile devices are proliferating at a remarkable rate, raising a host of challenges that CIOs haven't had to handle with other computing platforms. A commissioned technology adoption profile conducted by Boston-based research firm Forrester on behalf of Mobility-as-a-Service vendor Fiberlink, in Blue Bell, PA, focuses exclusively upon CIOs/IT decision-makers in the finance/insurance industry. But the issues these enterprises face will ring true for CIOs across the board. More than 130 CIOs and other IT purchase decision-makers from finance/insurance companies took part in the survey Managing and Securing Corporate and Personal Devices in Financial Services

More than one-third of enterprises support multiple mobile operating systems.

86 percent say they have strong password policies in place for security purposes to manage smartphone usage.

71 percent

71 percent say they have full-disk encryption in place for security purposes to manage smartphones.

66 percent

66 percent say they have asset/activity visibility and management in place for security purposes to manage smartphones.

64 percent

64 percent say they have remote lock/wipe access systems in place for security purposes to manage smartphones.

30 percent

30 percent of finance/insurance industry enterprises do not allow IT to support personally owned mobile devices.

Only 8 percent of finance/insurance industry enterprises allow IT to provide full support of all types of personally owned mobile devices.

20 percent

20 percent of finance/insurance industry enterprises prohibit the use of personally owned mobile devices.

49 percent

49 percent of those surveyed say regulatory compliance is a critical priority when it comes to mobile operating systems and the enterprise.

43 percent

43 percent say data security is a critical priority when it comes to mobile operating systems and the enterprise.

36 percent

36 percent say business continuity/disaster recovery is a critical priority when it comes to mobile-operating systems and the enterprise.

34 percent

34 percent say cutting costs and/or increasing efficiency is a critical priority when it comes to mobile-operating systems and the enterprise.

33 percent say managing vulnerabilities and threats is a critical priority when it comes to mobile-operating systems and the enterprise.
