Microsoft fired CIO Stuart Scott earlier this month for violating corporate policies.

"We can confirm that Stuart Scott was terminated after an investigation for violation of company policies, and have no further information to share," a Microsoft spokesman e-mailed blogger Mary Jo Foley, who first reported the firing.

Microsoft posted a note Monday on its Web site biography of Scott saying that he left the company in early November.

Microsoft General Manager Shahla Aly and Corporate Vice President Alain Crozier will assume Stuart's responsibilities until a replacement is hired, the company said.

According to the Microsoft Web site, Scott joined Microsoft in July 2005 and reported to chief operating officer Kevin Turner. The prior 17 years, Scott held roles at General Electric, where he most recently served as CIO for several divisions.

He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering, mathematics, and computer science from the University of Louisville, as well as an MBA from Vanderbilt University. He is a Six Sigma black belt and a graduate of GE's Leadership Development Program.
