The 2010 IT Budget

• More than of half of IT managers surveyed said their 2009 budgets were lower than their 2008 budgets.
• Approximately 23% of CIOs said their IT budgets this year were equal to their budgets last year.
• 25% said their IT budgets were increaded this year compared to 2008.
• For 2010, around 45% of CIOs expect their IT budgets to stay the same.
• About 28% expect their dollars to dwindle from 2009 to 2010.
• 27% say they believe their IT budgets will increase between now and 2010.
• This year IT departments spent approximately 33% of their budgets on hardware, software, networking equipment and depreciation. Next year that percentage will stay largely the same at 31%.
• In 2009, approximately 39% of IT budgets were spent on domestic internal staff and 4% on offshore in-house people.
  
  CIOs project that they'll shift two of those percentage points to offshore internal staff next year.
• This year, IT departments spent around 12% of their budgets on consulting services-next year that will dip slightly to 11%.
• In 2009, about 8% of budgets went for domestic outsourcing and 4% on offshore outsourcing. Next year it will be 9% for in-country and 6% for offshore outsourcing.
• Approximately 69% of IT spending in 2010 will be allocated to existing systems, while about 31% will be spent on building and buying new systems. This ratio remains largely the same compared to this year's numbers.
• Some 58% of CIOs reported their IT budgets as 3% or less of the overall corporate revenue. Around 12% of CIOs said it was at the 3% level, 24.57% said it was at the 2% level and 21.71% said it was 1% or less.
• Approximately 42% of IT departments had budgets equal to 4% or more of overall corporate revenue. Approximately 12% of those surveyed were at the 5% level, while just 1.71% spent more than 10% of corporate revenue on IT.
