A clear majority of IT and business-decision makers no longer understand why their organizations are running infrastructure operations in-house, according to a new report from Savvis Inc. So what's stopping them from getting out of this aspect of the IT business right now? In many cases, it's a “business as usual” mentality, Savvis reports.

64 percent of companies around the world will outsource their IT infrastructure by the year 2020, the report forecasts.

61 percent of IT/business decision-makers taking part in the report's survey believe that managing IT in-house provides no competitive advantage and has to stop.

48 percent of those surveyed say finding more cost-effective IT infrastructure solutions is a top strategic priority for 2010.

43 percent of those surveyed say focusing IT resources on developing and/or managing business-critical applications is a top priority for 2010.

32 percent of those surveyed say enabling collaboration to gain operational efficiencies is a top priority for 2010.

90 percent of enterprises in the United Kingdom have the majority of their IT infrastructure located in-house.

82 percent of enterprises in the U.S. have the majority of their infrastructure located in-house.

43 percent of those surveyed indicate that company culture was the biggest barrier to change when it comes to outsourcing infrastructure needs.

37 percent of those surveyed indicate that infrastructure needs aren't being outsourced because the current assets/investments haven't been written off yet.

54 percent of those surveyed either currently use or plan to use cloud computing within the next 12 months for their applications.

Nearly three-quarters of those surveyed will be using cloud computing for their applications at some point in the future.

52 percent of those surveyed say the security of sensitive data is a top reason for not adopting cloud computing.

27 percent of those surveyed say uncertainty over cloud value is a top reason for not adopting cloud computing.

Nearly one quarter of those surveyed say a top reason for not adopting cloud computing is that the cloud is an unproven concept for larger organizations.
