You are missing the most obvious reason - men in IT, particularly men from other cultures who get promoted and do not understand the U.S. laws on women in the workplace. Women who bend over backwards to be culturally sensitive to all are frequently treated with sexism from the very people they are extending tolerance toward - through comments, social manipulation and displacement. If companies want to keep women in IT they should address the men in IT - particularly the men in charge. There is now a giant cultural gap in corporate IT departments due to outsourcing and H1Bs which can create a hostile workplace for women. American born men usually know better but men from other cultures have flooded into management jobs while retaining their old world ideas and practices. It is not PC, so no one mentions it, it is a grey area causing a lot of problems for women in IT. It needs to be brought to light.
