IT Lacks Resources to Resolve Performance Issues
We recently reported that IT spends too much time tending to "fireman" tasks, with departments dealing with 20 unexpected issues every week. Now, the company behind that survey, TeamQuest Corp., has released additional research about the serious performance-management difficulties that tech staffers are facing. In far too many organizations, IT lacks either the information and/or the tools required to adequately address these problems, the findings show. And a great number of them operate within a "tunnel vision" environment, without an organization-wide perspective on how IT services are serving business needs. Another trouble spot: Cloud outages are common—and frequently preventable. "With nearly one-third of respondents spending $1 million or more on cloud services annually, the current volume of unplanned outages won't be tolerated by business leaders or their customers," says Scott Adams, director of product management for TeamQuest. "IT managers need to know whether there is sufficient service capacity to support growth or peaks in their workloads, for example." Nearly 215 tech managers at companies with at least 1,000 employees participated in the survey, which was conducted by Kelton Research.
