Assessing the Impact of Big Data

A new Cisco Connected World Technology Report based on a survey of 1,800 IT professionals in 18 countries finds that while everyone agrees the impact of big data will be huge, there are significant hurdles that need to be overcome before it gains mainstream adoption.

In addition to the sheer volume of data that needs to be managed, the Cisco survey finds that security issues and the number of ways that end users want to access big data is problematic. In addition, there are concerns that big data is going to put a strain on enterprise networks that already in a fragile state.

The good news is just about everybody agrees that the CIO and the IT department are will be at the forefront of most big data projects.

More IT Staffing  Almost one in four IT managers say big data projects will significantly affect IT staffing, and more than half say it will have at least some impact.
