Advanced Analytics Arises Across the Enterprise

Senior Leadership Involvement Seven in 10 say senior leadership is engaged with analytics. Nearly the same number report having a chief data officer or the equivalent.

There has always been tension between what businesspeople think they know and what the numbers often prove. Now that advanced analytics applications are getting easier to use, however, business executives are increasingly putting a lot more faith in the numbers. A new survey of 600 business executives with titles of director or above, conducted by Accenture, finds that usage of predictive analytics is up sharply over the last time the consulting firm did a similar study in 2009. It's clear that many business executives are still favoring their gut when it comes to making decisions, but the willingness to compare gut instinct against the numbers is now much higher. Unfortunately, the Accenture survey also makes it clear that CIOs still have data quality issues to deal with before everybody is completely satisfied with the results of their investments in advanced analytics.
