The Enterprise's Problem in the Cloud: Employees

No matter where a CIO turns, he or she is inundated with discussions about cloud computing, its value to employees, and whether it will be the major change agent in the enterprise that so many people say it will. The cloud is not just a theoretical concern for most CIOs; it’s arguably the biggest concern he or she faces on a daily basis. And determining the proper reliance upon the cloud is something that CIOs must wrestle with.

In a new study from enterprise identity management company OneLogin, however, it appears that CIOs might have an even bigger concern with cloud computing: employees. In fact, OneLogin found in its study of 200 respondents across IT, that a shocking number of employees are accessing cloud applications, regardless of their company’s policy. In some cases, they’re doing that to enhance what they can do in their jobs. In others, however, they’re affecting their productivity.

Either way, the findings indicate that CIOs must act quickly to determine their proper reliance on the cloud computing and limit the impact of rogue employees. The cloud is a huge issue for CIOs and enterprise decision-makers, and OneLogin’s study makes clear that the time to take action is now.

Multiple Security Models  Whether a cloud application is on-premise matters to CIOs. In fact, 34% of companies have different security models for cloud apps and on-premise programs.
