Also, they connect IT with marketing, sales and line of business leaders to develop and test apps that increase customer interaction and improve customer service.
How are IT executives preparing from the transition to mobile technologies in the enterprise? To find out, IBM and IDC conducted a joint study, "Putting mobile first: Best practices of mobile technology leaders. Findings from the IBM Global IT Study on Mobile Infrastructure," which examined today’s state of affairs in the enterprise. IBM and IDG liken the current shift to mobile to monumental changes that occur every 15 to 20 years, such as the Internet and e-business. It is critical, the report says, that IT organizations embrace this disruption and address the challenges or risk their reputations. The study found that only 20 percent of surveyed IT organizations treat mobile as a high priority and a strategic issue. These IT organizations "are able to effectively manage their end users' use of mobile devices, applications and company data while still enabling increased productivity,” the report notes. “And they are supportive of the critical initiatives of their marketing, sales, customer service and other departments intent on increasing and improving interactions with customers and partners." The report is based on responses from 361 IT executives worldwide who are responsible for their company's mobile strategies. About one third are CIO or CTOs, another third are IT directors, and the remainder are other IT executives. The companies have 1,000 or more employees, and are in the health-care, financial services, wholesale and retail sectors.
