The BYOD Culture Inspires Innovation 09

Stepping Up
Only 17% of global enterprises provide support for employee-owned smartphones and tablets.

One-fourth of all global information workers have empowered themselves to use multiple personally-owned devices and applications to get work done, according to a recent survey report commissioned by Unisys and conducted by Forrester Consulting. Welcome to the world of the "mobile elite", a class of professionals who overwhelmingly opt to use their own tools because they claim these devices and applications make them far more productive than products supported and distributed by IT. While security remains a concern, CIOs should realize that there are many positive developments with this trend, findings show. Mobile-elite professionals appear to maintain a decided edge when it comes to client service and innovation. And they are also likely to take the initiative when it comes to sparking organizational change and introducing new technologies. A total of 2,600 information workers and 590 business and IT executives took part in the research.
