A whopping 18,200 workers were added to the IT labor force in July, hitting its biggest monthly gain since 2008, according to BLS data analyzed by Foote Partners.

About 13,300 of those jobs were added in Management and Technical Consulting Services and Computer Systems Design-related Services, according to Foote Partners.

The balance of the total amount - 4,900 workers - was added in Telecommunications and Data Processing, Housing, and Related Services.

July's good news was just the latest positive data coming from the BLS for the IT profession. According to Foote Partners, in the last three months alone, nearly 57,000 new jobs have been added in the IT sector.

The IT job sector's performance in July was far ahead of July 2011, when only 8,600 jobs in that industry were added, according to Foote Partners.

In August 2011, things were even worse - 33,500 jobs were lost in the IT segment of the industry.

Still, over the last 24 months, the IT segment of the U.S. economy, which includes everything from telecommunications to data processing, has added a total of 174,200 jobs.

In the last 12 months, the IT sector has added 93,400 jobs, according to Foote Partners.

Interestingly, the Tech Services segment, which includes management consulting and computer systems design, has been gaining jobs in the last 24 months, driving the overall IT sector growth.

The Information segment, which includes telecommunications and data processing, has seen jobs decline over the last two years, but has started to make gains over the last few months.
