Spending on IT public cloud services in the U.S. was $11.1 billion in 2009.

By 2014, total U.S. IT public cloud spending will reach $29.5 billion.

Where is the growth?
Companies providing professional services, communications, and process manufacturing will lead the growth in public IT cloud services.

Where are the laggards?
Highly regulated industries, like government, banking, and healthcare will be least likely to adopt public IT cloud services in the next few years.

Healthcare Scenario
Although healthcare won't account for much of public IT cloud spending, this sector will see a 23 percent compound annual growth rate through 2014.

Cloud Infrastructure
Through 2009, cloud applications accounted for over half of investment by companies, but IDC expects that figure to drop to one-third of all investment, while cloud infrastructure software grows to 22 percent.

Services & Distribution
The cloud market for services and distribution is currently worth $3 billion, says IDC.

Services & Distribution
By 2014, IDC expects services and distribution spending on the cloud to rise to $8.5 billion, accounting for nearly 30 percent of all spending on public cloud services.
