Security Slideshow: SMB Data Security Spending SoarsBy Don Reisinger | Posted 06-25-2012
SMBs worldwide spent more than $19 billion on security products and services in 2011.
SMB spending on security products and services will increase at a compound annual growth rate of 10% through 2016.
Worldwide SMB spending on cloud security services accounts for nearly 17 percent of the overall cash doled out for security in 2011.
By 2016, cloud security will account for nearly one quarter of total SMB spending on security products and services worldwide.
So, what is driving the increase in spending? According to AMI, the "proliferation of mobile devices" is a going concern for SMBs that have been heavily influenced by BYOD.
Social media that make it easy for employees to "disseminate company data" is also a security concern for SMBs, says the AMI report.
Easy to Deploy
SMBs are turning to cloud solutions to help them solve these issues because they tend to be easy to deploy and attractively priced, according to the AMI report.
Lack of In-House Skills
SMBs are also choosing to outsource security services because they lack in-house technical resources and expertise, according to the AMI report.
