People in emerging markets see BYOD as an integral component of their future success. In fact, 79% of respondents said BYOD can help them do their jobs better.

Over half of the respondents in developed countries–53%–say BYOD is integral to their job performance.

Spain is the sole developed country that breaks the 50% barrier, with 63% of respondents saying BYOD is important. According to Ovum, employees are concerned with Spain’s ailing economy and believe BYOD will help them get ahead.

Of the people in the Ovum study, 18% said their employer’s IT department has no idea they’re using their personal devices in the workplace.

Even more surprising, 28% of respondents said their IT departments “actively ignore” that they’re using personal devices.

As Ovum notes, managing BYOD is extremely important for reducing security risks and ensuring employees are actually working. To not manage BYOD in the enterprise would be a major mistake.

“Unmanaged BYOD creates a great data security risk, and the implications of losing sensitive data via a personally owned device can be dire from financial, reputational and legal perspectives,” Ovum notes.
