IT Management Slideshow: IT-Business Disconnect: Will The Cloud Bridge The Gap, or Widen It?

As business technology demands escalate, CIOs and other top-level IT executives often face a disconnect between their infrastructure requirements and the needs of business leaders who are trying to maximize revenue and increase efficiency. The dual trends of IT consumerization and BYOD are adding further pressure to the roles of IT leaders. In a study commissioned by BMC Software and conducted by Forrester Research, the significant divide between IT and business is fully illustrated. From concerns over complexity to issues with managing workload, there are a host of areas across the enterprise that need to be addressed. Forrester surveyed 327 enterprise infrastructure executives and architects and found that, while the cloud is a source of some friction between IT and business leaders, it also has the potential to solve a number if issues. Here are eight highlights from the survey.

Complex Environments

39 percent of respondents say they have five or more virtual server pools. Cost reduction and reducing complexity, therefore, are major priorities for IT executives this year.
