1. It's Not So Consumer-y

When the iPhone first launched in 2007, Apple's smartphone didn't appear to be the most enterprise-friendly device on the market. The handset came with a touchscreen and an operating system CIOs had yet to try out, making it an immediate non-starter for a market that is notoriously slow to change. Over time, however, the iPhone started to make inroads into the enterprise and proved that perhaps Research In Motion's grasp on the space wasn't nearly as tight as some had believed. Over time, Apple has continued to gain market share in the enterprise, thanks in large part to the new BYOD trend. Employees, looking for flashier devices, are increasingly heading to IT to inform them of their desire to bring the iPhone into the office. And upon doing so, IT is left with little choice but to oblige and start embracing the iPhone. It wasn't necessarily a bad trade. As time has gone on, the iPhone has become a favorite among IT for its flexibility, remote device management features, and the ability to create apps for the platform that can be used internally. To commemorate the launch of Apple's latest iPhone, CIO Insight takes a look at what CIOs have learned about the smartphone since its debut.
