Worth Talking About  The majority of IT professionals say strong verbal communication skills are the most important aspect of an IT professional’s business expertise.

It’s no secret what it takes to get the job done in IT. From being able to handle emergencies to protecting data to ensuring that employees have the right tools, the IT function is vastly important in today’s corporate world. And in an increasing number of cases, companies are spending an inordinate amount of time trying to find the right people. The trouble is, actually finding the right people is by no means easy.

In a new survey released by IT staffing company TEKsystems, the skills gap seems bigger than ever. In fact, of the 2,400 IT professionals surveyed by TEKsystems, a surprisingly high number believe that both the demand for IT skills will outpace the supply and the skills of many present employees won’t stand up to the test of time. It’s a huge issue that might become even bigger in the next few years, according to TEKsystems.

“The IT landscape is constantly evolving and organizations, as well as IT professionals, need to stay up to speed with those shifts to more effectively manage the new demands businesses will face,” says Jason Hayman, market research manager at TEKsystems. “Organizations that do not keep pace with the change face the challenge of hiring in a market where there are not enough IT workers to fill all the jobs.”
