Now Hiring: IT's Haves and Have-Nots

With each new year comes new opportunities. A good number of employed IT professionals are currently looking for a new job. And many companies are deciding what positions they will fill this year, and are actively looking for personnel for those slots. Either way, 2013 is shaping up to be a very active year for job seekers and employers.

In a new study from the IT jobs website Dice, it’s abundantly clear what employers are looking for this year. Java, mobile and .NET developers are, of course, high on the list, as is the ability to crunch big data. Still, it’s not all good news. Entry-level professionals might have trouble finding a job, and the need for support personnel is waning.

Jobs Aplenty  According to Dice’s job listings, 77,000 positions are currently available for IT professionals across the U.S. Of those, nearly 48,000 are full-time positions. And 33,000 are contract positions.
