If you want to receive recognition for your accomplishments in IT, there's nothing like the satisfaction of receiving an award from your peers in the industry.
Since there isn't all that much competition at the moment, it means there is a tremendous opportunity for the IT people who have a good story to tell and can muster up the courage to overcome their internal barriers and let themselves step up to receive the praise they deserve.
There is, I suppose, one excuse for not applying for industry recognition that holds any validity: a lack of knowledge about the award opportunities. With all that's happening in our industry, it can be difficult to stay abreast of all the award opportunities.
