As indicated in past features, CIOs and other managers are struggling to retain good tech talent. But a new survey from Aerotek reveals that organizations will do a better job keeping valued workers if they invest in training. Clearly, an opportunity for improvement exists here, as a surprisingly low percentage of companies are providing ongoing training programs—even though an overwhelming majority agree that these programs are important. In many cases, executives say they don't have the time or the budget to pursue training programs. "Hiring decision-makers recognize the importance of engaging and developing their current workforce, but many lack the resources to develop existing employees while keeping up with hiring demands," says Tanya Axenson, vice president of HR for Aerotek, a provider of technical, professional and industrial staffing services. However, those companies that make the effort are reaping the rewards of greater employee engagement, productivity and retention.
