IT Execs Tee Off for New Jersey Charities

The NJ SIM Foundation’s all-day golf outing raised $100,000 for state charities, and will fund the launch of an iPad-based platform for people with autism.

Due to vendor support at the CIO Technology Exchange, the NJ SIM Foundation will present a $30,000 check to Giving Hope Network. This donation will fund GHN’s June pilot and provide it a financial head start for the rest of the program. The remainder of the money raised at the golf outing will be used to support the technology needs of numerous New Jersey charities during the second half of 2013.

I know how easy it is to get so caught up in your job that you forget your social life. Many years ago, I was not able to join my family to drive to a tree farm and cut down our Christmas tree. I came home one day from work and the tree was in the garage. That Christmas Eve, my wife and I were sitting in front of the tree and I thanked her for taking care of the task. I will never forget her words. She told me, “They must have thought I was crazy, standing in the middle of the forest, crying my eyes out.”

Four years ago, I joined the NJ SIM Chapter when I realized that most of my business connections were not local. I joined the SIM Foundation Awareness Committee to help make others aware of how they, as IT executives, can support their local community. If you are the typical IT executive, you are probably reading this article late at night or early on a weekend morning. I encourage you to change your life. Join your local SIM chapter so you can network with your peers, and get involved with supporting your local community. And if your SIM chapter doesn’t have a foundation, step up and start one. I have found that helping my local community has made a big difference in my life. I hope it will do the same for you.
