The vast majority of executives said their company has either already completed or is expecting to complete a digital business transformation within the next five years—and many said the deployment of custom software solutions is helping them get there, according to a recent survey from Appian. These execs are convinced that custom software solutions will enable more personalized customer experiences, while boosting operational and employee efficiencies. As a result, they expect custom software—which they consider to be much more nimble than pre-packaged products—to bring down costs. To ensure a smooth transition, survey respondents said they have to overcome challenges such as constantly evolving business requirements, long development cycles, the need to integrate throughout required data sources and a lack of communications between business and IT. They also are seeking to reduce what is now a large number of app/data silos, according to the findings. More than 420 business execs took part in the research, which was conducted by YouGov.
