While the bring your own device (BYOD) trend only continues to gain momentum, the implementation of effective policies to establish best practices for the use of personal devices on the job remains a work in progress. And the lack of an accelerated timetable could leave organizations exposed to regulatory penalties and network breaches, according to a recent survey of IT leaders and professionals from TEKsystems. For starters, an alarming number of corporations don't even have an active, updated policy, findings show. In addition to the increase in risks, an overwhelming number of CIOs say their policies (if they exist at all) fail to deliver on BYOD's potential to cut IT costs and boost employee productivity. On the positive side, CIOs are noticing a clear increase in employee satisfaction due to BYOD. And, of course, those workers are more readily available to their teams thanks to the increased connectivity. More than 1,500 IT leaders, including CIOs, as well as IT directors, VPs and hiring managers, and 2,000 IT tech pros in the U.S. and Canada took part in the research.
