CIOs Worry About the Economy, But Expect Their Own Companies to Grow

Bad economic news puts IT jobs and spending at risk. IT executives are equally divided on whether the economy will grow at least as quickly as it did in 2007 or whether 2008 will see slower growth. That’s much more pessimistic than a year ago. Still, fewer than a quarter of respondents expect their revenues to be flat or fall in 2008, partly because overseas opportunities offset problems at home, so IT spending and employment in 2008 won’t necessarily fall if the economy slows. But a tipping point approaches at which many IT organizations may start to cut spending and lay off IT workers.
