APTs: A Bigger, Badder Threat Than Ever Before
Advanced Persistent Threats, or APTs, have been surfacing more and more in the security community. In fact, the unrelenting, stealth threats, which are designed to steal intellectual property and other information, have hit major enterprises without their knowledge. The impact of APTs on the average company is massive, and the different ways it can hurt a firm are more troubling than some IT pros would like to admit.
But it’s time that APTs received more attention in the enterprise. As ISACA, a global IT association, revealed in a recent study of more than 1,500 security professionals, APTs are important to not only understand, but also to fight against. The world of IT is changing, and the techniques used by malicious hackers are becoming more sophisticated. And an increasing number of companies are finding that APTs are running amok.
But here’s the catch: Some of the major trends impacting the corporate world right now, like the use of social networks and the popularity of BYOD, are making life easier for APTs. Unfortunately, many companies are not taking the necessary steps to protect themselves. Simply put, when it comes to APTs, it’s time to take action.
