Why IT Departments Lack Diversity Programs
While IT leaders often struggle to find qualified IT workers, data indicates that most leaders don’t leverage diversity programs to help solve the challenge.
Less than half of survey respondents said diversity is a business initiative at their company.
Only 39% said their organization has a formal diversity program in place.
48% said it is difficult to find IT talent to fill open positions, with an additional 22% saying this is “somewhat” difficult.
Only 17% said they are “very” satisfied with the quality of candidates they receive for open IT positions, with 52% indicating that they’re only “somewhat” satisfied with these applicants.
47% said diversity goals are “never” or “rarely” actively discussed as part of the position fulfillment process, and 35% said this happens only “sometimes.”
45% of IT leaders said the tech department has been successful in integrating diversity efforts into regular operations – such as the support of employee resource groups and recognition of holidays/events—but only 38% of IT pros agree.
65% of IT leaders said their company’s working environment is highly inclusive, but just 53% of tech pros said this is the case.
Only 35% of tech leaders said their organization doesn’t need to do anything else to improve diversity/inclusion at work, and just 31% of IT pros feel the same way.
