Why CIOs Are Adopting Virtual Desktops
More than two out of five IT professionals and executives at organizations with at least 100 employees said their department spends $100,000 or more annually on desktop hardware and software.
More than 45% of IT professionals and execs said they spend anywhere from 21% to 50% of their time dealing with desktop upgrades, hardware/software installations, trouble shooting, user issues, etc.
Nearly one-half said their companies refresh their employees’ computers every four to five years, while two out of five do so every two to three years.
About one-third of IT professionals and executives said their organization uses a combination of traditional desktops and virtual ones, compared to nearly two-thirds of those who said their organizations use traditional desktops only.
Nearly 33% within organizations not currently using virtual desktops plan to move their employees to some type of virtual desktop within the next three years.
97% of those using Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) or Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) are satisfied with these.
About 45% of survey respondents at organizations using virtual desktops said 11% to 50% of their employees use them, and 22% said more than one-half of all workers are using virtual desktops.
72% of survey respondents at these organizations are using self-hosted VDI.
Six out of 10 said their companies have used virtual desktops to enable staff to work remotely during an outage, severe weather incident or other business disruption.
