Pioneering Author Michael Hammer Dies at 60

Sep 5, 2008

Michael Hammer, co-author of the landmark Reengineering the Corporation and a leading authority on IT and business strategy, died Wednesday.

As the New York Times notes in its report of Hammer’s passing, the impact of that book (written with consultant and strategy expert Jim Champy) led Time to name Hammer to its list of "America’s 25 Most Influential People" in 1996. Reengineering the Corporation was selected in our compilation of the most groundbreaking management books of all time.

Hammer’s work was featured in CIO Insight several times over the years, most recently in October 2007, when he was interviewed for our Expert Voices column. Click here to read that article, "CIO as Chief Process Officer, Not Strategic Leader."

CIO Insight also reviewed his 2001 book, The Agenda: What Every Business Must Do to Dominate the Decade.
