Line managers and staff have grown more involved in technology decision-making, and users are dabbling with plenty of software on their own. But in terms of actual IT spending, IT organizations remain the masters of their domain.
Our 2008 IT Spending Survey finds that 86 cents out of every dollar companies spend on IT comes from the IT budget. This is just a one percentage point change from last year’s survey, which found 13 percent of IT spending fell outside the IT budget.
Bottom line: Companies are not moving to take the power of the purse away from the IT organization.
