The debate rages on: Are CIOs strategic or tactical? Being a CIO today means much more than the proverbial “keeping the lights on in the data center,” according to a recent CIO Insight survey. In fact, six in 10 CIOs surveyed said one of their most important duties was to pitch in on business strategy.
Sure, plenty of them pointed to traditional IT-focused responsibilities like ensuring reliability and managing data, but broader business issues–like boosting business processes and driving innovation–ranked high.
CIOs themselves have drawn the line in the sand: They are not just tacticians anymore. But will business executives take notice?
