How M2M Powers the Internet of Things
76% of respondents have heard of M2M, up from 61% in 2014. More than one-quarter (27%) of all businesses worldwide report using M2M technology.
90% reported that M2M is relevant to their organization today, up from 86% in 2014.
Top M2M adopters include: energy and utilities (37%), automotive (32%), retail (32%), consumer electronics (29%), and health care and pharma (28%).
Top M2M uses include: new types of devices (55%), more connections (53%), data analytics (48%), new connectivity types (45%), more lines of business (44%).
Half (50%) of M2M adopters indicated that they’re using the IoT and M2M to enable new business and operating models.
83% of adopters agreed that they have gained a competitive advantage from M2M; 38% agreed “strongly.”
59% of those using M2M said they’ve realized “significant” ROI, compared to 46% in 2014.
79% agreed that M2M is not about buying technology, but rather about improving business processes.
The study found that the CIO leads projects in 36% of cases; the CEO leads in 16%. 63% report having multiple leaders involved.
Only 46% of projects get charged to the IT budget. 28% of businesses already use risk/reward sharing models, and 29% charge the cost direct to the consumer.
