Part of a leader’s job is to develop other leaders. Coaching is one of the best ways to do that, but most managers don’t have a clue how to coach effectively. This book offers a place to start. The authors lay out a four-step model: Set a goal, track progress, plan the next step, and support the actions taken. And they show how to give feedback at each step of the process. They even offer advice for dealing with people who don’t want to be coached: Find out why they are resisting; forge a relationship, no matter how difficult that is; and persist.
