Not so hidden in this autobiography of the man who led UCLA to ten national championships in 12 years is some of the best advice on leadership you will ever read. “Don’t worry about being better than somebody else, but never cease trying to be the best you can be.” “Success is peace of mind that is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best you are capable of being.” Pay particular attention to Wooden’s pyramid of success in Chapter 9. Many of the 15 factors he says are necessary to be a leader/achiever will surprise you. Guaranteed. Who would have thought “friendship” would have made the list?
