
Enterprise Still Main Target of DDoS Attacks
China Remains Largest Attack Traffic Originator
China maintained its position as the originator of most attack traffic, with quarter-over- quarter growth increasing from 35% to 43% in Q4.
Attack Traffic Originators Climb in North America
The U.S. followed China at 19%, up from 11%. Canada followed in third place, with 10% of the attacks in Q4, a substantial increase from Q3’s 0.4%.
Indonesia’s Attack Traffic Declines
Attack traffic in Indonesia continued to decline, falling to 6%, which is one-fourth of its Q3 attack traffic.
Port 445 Most Targeted
Attacks on Port 445 (Microsoft-DS) grew to 30% of observed attacks quarter-over-quarter. It was the top targeted port in Germany, Romania, Russia, Taiwan, Canada, and the U. S.
Ports 80 and 443 Follow
Port 80 (WWW/HTTP) remained in second place, accounting for 14% of attacks. Port 443 (SSL/HTTPS) stayed in third place, but dropped from 13% to 8% in Q4.
DDoS Attacks Increase in Late 2013
Reported attacks increased 23% from Q3 to Q4 for a total of 346 assaults, in contrast to the decline from Q2 to Q3 during which there were 318 and 218 attacks, respectively.
Total DDoS Attacks in 2013 Rise
1,153 DDoS attacks occurred in all of 2013, a substantial increase from 768 attacks in 2012.
Likelihood of Repeated Attacks
The probability of experiencing repeated attacks in Q4 increased to 35%, with 56 of the attacked 162 organizations suffered repeated threats throughout the quarter.
