SOA Software Inc. has announced that it is partnering with Red Hat Inc. to promote the shift to simple, open and affordable service-oriented architecture solutions for the enterprise.

Los Angeles-based SOA Software, a provider of SOA and Web services for governance, management, security and mediation solutions, is teaming with the JBoss division of Red Hat to enable enterprises deploying SOA applications on Red Hat’s JBoss Enterprise Middleware to take advantage of SOA Software’s Service Manager and WorkBench products for SOA governance and other functions.

SOA Software officials said the move signals the rapid emergence of open-source solutions in a competitive SOA market that has been dominated by proprietary platform vendors.

“The era of open-source SOA is here,” said Roberto Medrano, executive vice president of SOA Software, in a statement.

Red Hat’s JBoss Enterprise Middleware stack enables enterprises to build and deploy applications, including SOA applications. SOA Software officials claim the added capabilities of the SOA Software Infrastructure Suite strengthen JBoss Enterprise Middleware as the open-source foundation for enterprise-wide managed SOA deployments.
Customers can use the SOA Software Infrastructure Suite with JBoss Application Server today, and in the future, SOA Software will extend its support to the JBoss enterprise service bus, JBoss ESB, company officials said.

“Our large customers are increasingly searching for complete SOA solutions extending beyond the conventional large-platform vendor universe, and our partnership with JBoss fills that need very nicely,” SOA Software’s Medrano said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity for SOA Software, a move that signals that maturing position of open-source SOA in the enterprise.”

Meanwhile, also in a statement, Shaun Connolly, vice president of Product Management, JBoss Division, Red Hat, said, “With our open-source architecture, Red Hat is driving out costs in the enterprise and accelerating the shift to SOA. Partners like SOA Software are essential to our goal of delivering maximum value, choice and interoperability to our customers.”
