Financing Technology’s Frontier:
Decision-Making Models for Investors and Advisors, 2nd Edition
By Richard P. Shanley
John Wiley & Sons Inc., December 2003
272 pages, $79.95

Even though both the economy and Wall Street are starting to look up, no one
is arguing that the funding spigot for new technology companies will be turned
wide open any time soon. That’s the premise of this updated technology-financing
primer by Shanley, a partner at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. He approaches the
question of how to gain technology funding from every perspective, and the numerous
road maps he lays out are clear and helpful. Finally, to his credit, Shanley
does not consider this a work about raising money but, rather, “a book about
creating the future.” The numerous road maps he lays out are clear (if necessarily
truncated—the book is just 272 pages long) and helpful.
