Move over, college kids and awkward adolescents: About half of CIOs
and other IT executives use social networking Web sites too.

LinkedIn, a site geared to adults seeking to build a network of professional contacts, is the clear first choice. But MySpace and Facebook also are used by about 20 percent to 25 percent of IT executives who visitsocial networking sites.

It’s not just for fun: These sites can help IT executives land new jobs, recruit employees, and see if that potential new hire likes to pose in his underwear with a beer on his head.

Company Total CIOs Other IT Execs
LinkedIn 36% 31% 41%
MySpace 12% 11% 12%
Facebook 8% 8% 9%
Second Life 36% 5% 2%
Friendster 1% 1% 0%
Visible Path 1% 1% 0%
Other 3% 2% 3%
None 50% 54% 46%
